Ludwig Dill, Harbor of Naples

Naples – Dill, Ludwig (Gernsbach, Baden, 1848 – Karlsruhe 1940). Harbor of Naples. Dense maritime activity below Sant’ Elmo Castle and the town stretching up the ridge with works in the yards or, quite in front right,

the  less  frequently  depicted  caulking .

Wood engraving for Adolf Closs (1840 Stuttgart 1894, “at his time one of the best of his profession in Germany”, Thieme-Becker). (1876.) Inscribed in the stock: Dill Napoli [18]74, and per typographical caption in German as above. 10¼ × 6¾ in (26 × 17.2 cm). – Instructive as well as optically fine sheet, as ordered work instantaneously transferred into the wood.
