Seasick

Seasick. Young couple closely snuggled up to each other on the bank on the quarterdeck before the boat, feeling by no means comfortably. At the helm before the imperial post flag sailor apparently also not yet having got his sea-legs, while on the front left by the luggage an old jack tar smokes his cigar with great pleasure. Wood engraving by monogramist L. N. after Johannes Gehrts (St. Pauli/Hamburg 1855 – Dusseldorf 1921) for Adolf Closs, Stuttgart. (1880/81.) Inscribed in the stock: Joh. Gehrts (18)80 / A. Closs X. I. L. N, and typographically per caption as above. 11.7 x 14.5 cm. – Continuous, on the back concluded text in German on the discomforts of seasickness until the arrival on Borkum Island.
